The Goodall and Motion Family History by Bill Goodall

Their son Ian Scott Goodall is an only child - he was born in 1917 and became a Dentist practising from the same parental home where he still lives after his retirement. He is married with two daughters.

The daughter of the family was my Aunt Betty who lived until 1977 and she married Jim Kelso; they had one child, Sheena, and they lived in Kings Park Glasgow until Jim died.

Subsequently Aunt Betty moved to Wanstead to be near Sheena who married Jack Swain; Jack died young in 1975 and they have two children, Grant and Elizabeth. Sheena now lives in Thatcham Berkshire while her son Grant is about to retire from the RAF. Aunt Betty bore a strong resemblance to her Mother (my Grandmother) both in looks and in temperament and I regret that I did not meet her more often.

The fourth child of the Goodall family, was Galt who devoted his life to caring for his Mother in her widowhood. He never married and was employed by a Coal Co. in Glasgow - this Company owned a number of pits and when I was about 14 Galt took me to one of their mines at Uddingston where I was allowed to visit the coal face. Even at that early stage I was shocked by the conditions endured by the miners who were operating in a wet surface on a pick and shovel basis - no mechanisation in those days.

I was very fond of Galt who had a rapport with the younger generation unusual at the time so it was a great shock to learn of his death in 1941. He was run over and killed by a bus in Glasgow during the blackout.
