A theory into our origins by James Motion THE QUEBEC MOTIONS I have believed for a long time that the family in Quebec who were known as Motion in the later half of the 1600s could have held important clues to the origins of the Scottish Motions. Both of these families, in Quebec and Scotland are around at the same time, so they are clearly two different family groups. There are only 6 entries for the name of Motion in Quebec from 1669 to 1762. They are as follows - 1.
The christening of Jean Baptiste Motion on the 11 December
1669, Quebec. All of these records can be found on the International Genealogical Index (IGI), which was compiled by the Mormon Church from the original Church records. As you can see numbers 1 to 3 are before the first mention of Motion in Scotland. Numbers 4 to 6 are running parallel with the Motions in Scotland, this fact clearly indicates that these are two separate Motion families, one in Quebec and one in Scotland. |
